Hypnosis is a simple and effective method for directing our attention and imagination and can have a profound influence over our emotions, our thinking and our behaviour. In a hypnotic trance a person focuses their attention on a specific idea and engages the imagination whilst ignoring any other input.
It is really about becoming 'Absorbed' with a certain idea and forgetting about all other things for a time. The person in a hypnosis trance kind of steps into the bubble of an idea (i.e. "I'm a confident person") and knows nothing else for a while.
This happens because:
For example focusing on the word "Rest" creates a lowering of physical arousal associated with resting.
Every word sets off a related set of images, feelings, sensations, other ideas, and so on.
Hypnosis works by deepening our natural reaction to each idea: so in a hypnotic trance the idea of 'SLEEP' - can make our eyes seem heavier and so we feel sleepier.
Hypnosis is about engaging with and enhancing that natural response.
Within hypnotherapy we use the natural hypnotic trance state to enable us to easily access both the conscious and unconscious minds. Through this instinctive state of deep absorption & receptivity, new attitudes, perceptions and behaviours can be inserted deeply into the mind.
Absolutely! You stay in control all of the time. Hypnotists can't make you do anything you don't want to. If at any time you want to stop the hypnotic trance, you just have to disagree. All of the people you've seen acting like chicken during stage shows; do so because they want to. It might be normally outside of their reach, but they do want to do it.
Most treatments can show significant progress after a couple of sessions. However an effective treatment (i.e. one that endures) lasts three to six sessions.
Everyone responds to hypnosis differently and so I can't guarantee a specific result, but I do guarantee your satisfaction.
