Hypnotherapy, and particularly Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, is easily one of the most effective solutions for reducing stress.

To understand why, let's first look at what causes stress and how the body reacts under stressful conditions.
Stress is your body's natural response to any perceived demand or threat.
When stressed the body releases the hormones adrenaline & cortisol. These have the effect of energising the body, increasing your strength, improving your reaction times and sharpening your senses.
Under normal conditions, it's a completely natural process that enables you to rise up to meet a challenge, keeps you focused on what's important and enables you to operate at your best.
Problems occur when the stress reaches levels that are considered outside a person's comfort zone. At this point a person can begin suffering from stress overload.
Symptoms of stress overload include:
And the list goes on...
I teach a skills based method for dealing with stress and so you'll be learning about and practicing deep calming relaxation techniques, basic self-hypnosis and formulating more useful, practical ways of working through stressful situations.
Currently the National Health Service is recommending Applied Relaxation for treating stress. I believe combining relaxation with hypnotherapy creates a highly effective and pragmatic approach.
When learning to manage stress, typically you'll practice a rapid relaxation technique that lowers the muscle tension throughout the body. Then you'll learn about hypnosis and self-hypnosis as a way to deepen your relaxation and your feelings of confidence.
Having already learnt about and practiced deep relaxation during the previous sessions we now have you confront difficult, stressful situations whilst concentrating on relaxing the body even more deeply - training both the brain and the body to remain calm whilst in that challenging situation.
You'll then imagine yourself acting more calmly and with confidence in those situations - You'll rehearse lots of positive improvements within those situations.
This rehearsal, using hypnosis, is repeated so that new automatic responses can be created.
Soon you'll discover your own intrinsic resources for becoming more relaxed and centred at the times where you used to get stressed - so we'll work on embedding powerful thoughts of relaxation at the core of your belief system.
Most people straightaway notice the difference even after one treatment - however a course lasting two to four sessions is normally recommended to compound your ability to relax and ensure the change is permanent rather than a temporary fix.
By instructing you with relaxation techniques, inner self-confidence and the use of visualisation exercises under hypnosis, you'll discover that the stress related to specific situations has just dissolved - as well as a lowering of your general stress levels and body tension
